Update on Church Roof

Fr Paul writes: “Thank you for your patience while waiting for a decision about Mother of God & Guardian Angels church.

At an open parish meeting, we looked forward to having full churches at Mass which bring everybody together to build up a strong community and we wondered if our church was still fit for this. We discussed that a roofing company had expressed grave concerns about the safety of our tower wall and we’d been given an architect’s guide price of some £370,000 to carry urgent roof repairs. We currently have a debt of some £28,000.

Our Church family in the Archdiocese and the local parishes have been taking some time before coming to a decision about the future of our church because we are one of a number of local churches which we may feel we no longer need to serve our community. We hope to carry out a more in-depth survey of our church tower in 2025 to inform our decision about our church - I’ll keep you posted. Please keep all this in your prayers.” December 2024

In the meantime, we are celebrating our Sunday Masses in Guardian Angels primary school. Please enter the school pedestrian gate to the right hand side of the school and go through the main reception door. We are grateful to the school staff for their support.

Some of our weekday Masses are celebrated in our church - see our weekly newsletter for which ones. To access the church, please enter the front of Guardian Angels House, Kitsland Road (behind church); go round the church, up some steps and then enter through the side door.

Prayers for the sick
Ministry of the Sick & Housebound

While the Parish tries to be vigilant, it is the sick or housebound person, or someone close, who should alert the Church and ask for care. The care comes in many ways. We pray for the sick and housebound every weekend. Parishioners will bring them Holy Communion and the Priest anoints them and brings them healing and absolution in the Sacrament of the Sick. However, to do this we must know that someone is sick or housebound.

If you have family, a friend or neighbour who requires this care then please, with their permission,  complete the form on the attached leaflet and return to Father Paul Smith.

Link with Schools

Our church works closely with our Schools in preparing children for the holy sacrament of First Communion and Confirmation.
